until july 2011, i'll be taking a timeout visiting family and friends in south africa, namibia and australia. except for my timeout period @6footplus tweets, foursquare check-ins and the occasional twitpic & flickr photo uploads, my online & blogging presence will be limited.
on short notice, i've come to ottawa, the capital of canada, for a 3 day business workshop due to start on tuesday. oh yes, have i mentioned that i have a new freelance contract? i have a new freelance contract and it's all go go go go!! back to canada: it's my second visit to cananda, and i still like it (my first visit was montreal, for the f1). sure, things are a bit different here, but i like the vibe...yes, even though many of them are "french" ;-) for starters, they have & cook great steaks. tough to dislike a nation that value a good steak!
the score speaks for itself, doesn't it! the boks absolutely crushed the poms. a nil score is very unusual in rugby, making the victory that much more impressive. sure it wasn't a semi or final world cup match, but i was thrilled to experience the match live. amazing how quiet england rugby supporters can actually get, especially towards the end. it was good to hang out with a few safas again, appreciating the odd funny afrikaans saying or two. it's been a while since i spoke or heard afrikaans. i forgot how crazy paris is. go bokke, world champions 2007!!
where do i start? there's so much to mention about the power visit jukka and i had in montreal. obviously the highlight was having the f1 weekend tickets. the montreal race track is a semi street circuit. the track is purposely built on a tiny island not far from downtown. the location is simply stunning. all in all, montreal is a really cool city. sure it is very american, but it has quite a bit of a european flair too. the most commonly spoken language is french...and their attitudes are very much like their brother's and sister's from the motherland. albeit, the place rocks! the race on sunday was nothing but dull! sunday was an absolute scorcher, so the ice cold budweisers went down a treat!
paula & i spent the long weekend in berlin travelling from helsinki via tallinn, estonia. tallinn's old town was good to see and gently kick-started our sight seeing weekend. our taxi driver kept on "tap-dancing" the accelerator pedal, so from the airport we jerkingly arrived at our hotel in berlin. in short, berlin rocks! it was good to see a far more laid back german crowd than i'm used to...bliss! the food was yumm, although a bit of a vegetarian's nightmare! i'd love to go there again for a weekend! long live german beer, schnitzel & bratwurst! prost, zum wohl!
